Doggies on the Dell brings students together for a day of connection

The students and some furry friends got to join in on all the excitement in the Dell for an afternoon of community with the University of Lynchburg’s Doggies on the Dell event. This event was organized by the University of Lynchburg and allowed students to bring their dogs to the heart of campus. This event was meant to make a way for students to escape all the academic and outside pressures that they were going through.

There were dogs of all shapes and sizes on the Dell while students socialized and got to play and pet the dogs. This cozy and heartwarming event was a much-needed escape for many students.

“I love bringing my puppy out to events because he gets to meet new people and practice socializing because he is so young and can be afraid of new things,” Burns said.

There were also moments at the event that spread through the entire campus, including an owner taking one of the dogs ending up to the nearby track so the entire campus could enjoy. Even wild animals did not miss the fun as a deer was spotted watching the event from the edge of the Dell.

“It’s one of my favorite events on campus,” said Lydia Nelson, a student who attended with friends. “It gives everyone a chance to step away from school and sports and just enjoy being outside with the dogs.”

As spring approaches, lots of events, wild animals, including Lynchburg's well-known squirrels and deer, will make more appearances in the upcoming months as school draws to an end. Doggies on the Dell was one of the first events marking the upcoming season change, and by the end of the event, students and their pets left the Dell feeling more relaxed, showing the power of simple campus events in bringing students together.
